The Monetary Authority of Singapore on Wednesday launched the Singapore 45 Years of Independence Commemorative Coins to mark the country's independence.

The coin design draws inspiration from Singapore's 2010 National Day Parade theme, "Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag".

At the center of the coin is a group of Singaporeans rejoicing at the historical Padang, an open field at the heart of Singapore' s central business district, which is the venue for this year's National Day celebrations.

Flanking the group of Singaporeans on the left is the logo for this year's National Day theme while to the right is an artistic perspective of the City Hall.

The Silver Proof Color Coin comes in an innovative rectangular shape, the first of its kind in Singapore.

The obverse of the coin bears the Singapore Arms with the year- date 2010.

Singapore will celebrate its 45-year-independence on Aug. 9 this year.
