Nikkei tumbles to seven-month closing low

Japan's key Nikkei stock index tumbled to a seven-month closing low on Wednesday amid falls in global markets and a stronger yen against the dollar.
The benchmark 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 188.03 points, or 1.96 percent, from Tuesday to 9,382.64, the lowest point in seven months.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 10.77 points, or 1.26 percent, to 841.42, also the lowest closing level since Nov. 30.
Trading volume on the main section came to 1,862.98 million shares, up from Tuesday's 1,595.87 million.
The TSE's Second Section index shed 14.43 points, or 0.67 percent, to 2,141.07 on a volume of 20.04 million shares. On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term September Nikkei 225 index futures contract was down 190 points to 9,360.
