Indian stocks opens 1.29%

Indian main stock index Sensex extended gains from previous trading session and picked up 216.42 points or 1.29 percent after 38 minutes of trading in the early trading session of Thursday.

The index opened at 16,786.28 points amid upward movements of Asian bourses, 44.44 points higher from previous close of 16,741. 84 points.

Metal, realty, auto and banking sectors lead the growth leaping 1.75 percent, 1.71 percent, 1.47 percent and 1.32 percent, respectively.

Sterlite Industries, Reliance Communications, Hindalco and Tata Motors saw increase of 2.69 percent, 2.36 percent, 2.24 percent and 2.15 percent.

Sensex is the common name for the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index. It consists of the 30 largest and most actively traded stocks, representative of various sectors, on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
