Tokyo stock falls sharply in morning trade

Tokyo stocks fell sharply Wednesday morning, with the key Nikkei stock index hitting a three-month intraday low on yen's rise against the euro.

The benchmark Nikkei-225 index lost 163.61 points, or 1.60 percent, from Tuesday to 10,079.03, after briefly hitting 10,041. 93, the lowest since Feb. 16 but barely above the psychologically important 10,000 line.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 12.91 points, or 1.41 percent, to 901.00.
