Seoul shares close lower on Fannie Mae concerns

South Korean shares closed lower Tuesday on financial concerns of Fannie Mae, or the Federal National Mortgage Association of the United States.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 7. 39 points to close at 1,670.24. Trading volume was heavy at 449.12 million shares worth 6.4 trillion won (5.6 billion U.S. dollars), with losers outpacing gainers 384 to 413.
The local currency ended at 1,135.7 won to the U.S. dollar, down 3.6 won from Monday's close.
