Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, called for efforts to boost the country's electricity output, state media said on Sunday.

During an inspection tour of the newly-built Ryesonggang Youth Power Station No. 1 plant in North Hwanghae province, Kim called for large-scale construction of hydro-power stations, large or small.

He also said measures should be adopted to ensure coal supplies to thermal power plants.
