First half consumption growth in Guangdong sets 10-year record |

In the first half of 2009, Guangdong's gross retail sales of consumer products reached 705.722 billion yuan, up 15 percent year-on-year. After price factors were deducted, the actual growth rate stood at 19.3 percent, setting a new ten year record.
The Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province predicts that Guangdong's gross retail sales of consumer products in 2009 will continue to grow rapidly, with a growth rate of about 16 percent.
In addition, reporters learned from the "Conference on Guangzhou's Commercial and Economic Operation and Rural Circulation Network Construction in the First Half of 2009" that in the second quarter of 2009, Guangzhou's gross retail sales of consumer products reached 88.3 billion yuan, up 16.4 percent year-on-year; in the first half, this figure totaled 169 billion yuan, up 12.4 percent year-on-year; the commerce's contribution to Guangzhou's entire economic growth accounted for 17.8 percent, up 4.6 percentage points year-on-year.
