On July 8, the latest Fortune Global 500 list was released by Fortune Magazine in America. Despite the influence of the world financial crisis, the number of listed companies from Chinese Mainland hit a record at 34, and witnessed the largest growth ever since the listing of first Chinese Mainland company. There are eight more Chinese companies listed than last year.

Fortune Magazine thinks that if the Chinese economy maintains its almost double digit growth, then it is foreseeable that more Chinese companies are to be listed in Fortune Global 500, which will definitely mark that China is growing as an important force in international economy.

Fortune Magazine mentions that in 2008, Chinese RMB gained appreciation on different levels against the USD and other major global currencies, which helped to enhance the ranking of Chinese Mainland companies.

Tang Min, assistant secretary general of China Development Research Foundation, says that in the last decade, Chinese GDP maintained an almost double digit average increase and the achievements of economic growth were reflected directly by the scale of companies, thus it is no wonder that more companies are listed in Fortune Global 500.

The fact that this year witnesses a net increase of eight listed companies especially in the context of a global financial crisis fully illustrates that the succession of policies issued by the Chinese government to enhance the steady and rapid economic development are of great significance to Chinese companies pulling through the crisis. Royal Dutch Shell tops the list with the operating income of 458.361 billion USD.
