South Korea's top steelmaker POSCO said Tuesday that it marked a sharp increase in sales in China in the second quarter thanks to the country's massive economic stimulus measures.

According to POSCO, its shipment to China stood at 926,000 tons in the April-June period, up from 558,000 tons a year earlier.

"We expect steel sales in China to continue to increase in the second half of the year," said an official at POSCO.

The company said it also expects gains from rising steel price, which have increased up to 20 percent recently on the back of rising demand.
