China's light industry production rebounded in the first five months of 2009, with recovering production and sales. According to experts, although light industrial product exports continued to decrease, signs of recovery have appeared. Driven by policies to boost domestic demand and promote "household appliances to the countryside," key sectors such as household electrical appliances, furniture, leather and plastic as well as the light industry in some regions have increased their profits.
In the first five months of this year, the cumulative household appliance industry output value dropped by 2.8 percent year-on-year, 0.3 percentage points steeper than the decline in the first four months. The cumulative output to sales ratio stood at 97.3 percent, while gross export delivery value reached 83.05 billion yuan, a drop of 20.5 percent year-on-year. The decline rate is 3.3 percentage points higher than that of the first four months.
The nationwide light industry output value totaled 3.72262 trillion yuan in the first five months of 2009, an increase of 8.6 percent year-on-year. In May, the light industry output value rose by 8.9 percent year-on-year, 0.1 percentage points higher month-on-month.
Export delivery value dropped by 11.3 percent year-on-year, 0.6 percentage points more than that in the first four months.
