The Nam Lik 1-2 Power Co. Ltd, a Chinese-invested firm, is developing a hydroelectric plant with capacity of 100 MW in Laos' northern Vientiane province, Laonewspaper Vientiane Times reported Tuesday.

Capitalized at 150 million U.S. dollars, the two-turbine plant will generate 435 million kwh per annum, all of which will be consumed by Laos households and businesses. The first turbine is scheduled to become operational in May 2010, and the second inJuly 2010.

Construction of the plant will also help develop infrastructure, prevent flooding, and provide more incomes and jobs for people in the province, according to provincial officials.
