A solar power station with the largest installed capacity in Asia is currently being built in Beixiao Village, in Shilin town, Yunnan province. The photovoltaic (PV) power station has a total installed capacity of 166 megawatts, of which 10 megawatts will begin generating electricity at the end of this year.

It is estimated that only about two billion yuan of investment is needed for the Shilin PV power station with a total installed capacity of 66 megawatts. In the first phase of the project, 10 megawatts of installed capacity will be able to generate electricity at the end of 2009.
