By 2008, Tibet's total grain output had stayed steady over 900,000 tons for ten consecutive years. Since "the Eleventh Five-Year Plan" (2006-2010), grain production has been kept on a level over 920,000 tons
Tibet has implemented measures for enhancing the grain and oil yield, at the same time highlighting the promotion for practical techniques such as agricultural mechanization etc. At present, the coverage of improved crops exceeds 80 percent. After implementation of the measure on enhancing the yield, Tibet increased the grain production by about 52,000 tons.
Besides increasing total grain output, Tibet also made efforts in optimizing the structure of grain supply. It developed cash crops and grass feeding-crops, further improving the structure of farming, and increased the output of highland barley, rape and vegetables.
Nowadays, the self-supply rate of urban areas in Tibet has reached 80 percent, and the number of vegetable varieties exceeds 110.
