On the morning of July 20, the main section of the Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway was finished. The line starts from Fuzhou in the north, through Fuqing, Putian, Quanzhou and Jinjiang, ending in Xiamen. It is the first high-speed railway in Fujian Province; construction began in October 2005 and is due for total completion this year.

The total length of the Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway will be 274.9 kilometers and a total of 15.26 billion yuan has been invested in the railway. It has been built as a national I-class, double-track electric arterial railway, and has a designed train speed of 200 kilometers per hour with a reserve speed of 300 kilometers per hour.

When the railway is completed, it will connect the Yangtze River Delta economic region in the north with the Pearl River Delta economic region in the south, and offer convenient transport for the construction of the Economic Zone on the West Coast of Taiwan Strait.
