A draft of the plan for Shanghai International Tourist Resort Core Zone has been posted online for public comment over a period of one month, according to the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Planning and Land Resources on March 9.

According to the published plan, the zone has a planned area of 7 square kilometers and the first phase of the project covers 3.9 square kilometers.

The most attractive part of the planning draft is undoubtedly the Shanghai Disneyland project, which is located in the zone. According to the general planning layout, Shanghai Disneyland will be situated at the center of the zone, with a central lake, public transport facilities, supporting business and entertainment facilities as well as a rail transit station to its south.

There will be space for hotels in the western and southern areas of the park, and space will be reserved in its northwest and eastern areas for further development. A river will surround the entire area.

Moreover, the plan shows that there will be two rail transits in the Disneyland Park. Rail transit Line 11 will be built in the first phase of the project, and the No. 2 connection line will be constructed in later period. The two transit lines will share one station.

At present, preparations for supporting projects around Disneyland have started. It is said that if all necessary procedures go smoothly, the construction of the main part of Shanghai Disneyland project will start in the first half of 2011.

Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng said recently that the investment for the first phase of the Shanghai Disneyland project will amount to 24.5 billion yuan, and the first phase construction will be completed and open to the public during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015).
