Standard Chartered appoints new chairperson in HK

Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited has appointed Katherine Tsang as chairperson of the Board of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) with effect from Jan. 1 this year, said the bank in its press release on Monday.

With this new appointment, Katherine, who was appointed Standard Chartered Bank's chairperson for Greater China in July 2009, is now chairperson of Standard Chartered's Boards in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Katherine has been with Standard Chartered Bank since 1992. She was appointed CEO China in 2005 and also Executive Vice Chairman of China in 2008.

Jaspal Bindra, Group Executive Director and CEO, Asia of Standard Chartered Bank said, this appointment is of strategic significance to the bank given the increasing importance of the Greater China Region.

The bank also announced on Monday that CK Chow has decided to retire from the roles as an independent nonexecutive director and Chairman of the Board of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) with effect from Dec. 31, 2010.
