The Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE) closed in the black on Friday, lifted by gold and oil stocks.

The all share index ended 0.24 percent higher. Resources added 0. 13 percent, and the gold mining index soared 1.33 percent while the platinum mining indices fell 0.98 percent.

Industrials rose 0.34 percent and financials added 0.28 percent, and banks closed 0.41 percent higher.

The rand was bid at 6.88 to the U.S. dollar from 6.84 rand when the JSE closed on Thursday, while gold was quoted at 682.50 dollars a troy ounce from 675.00 dollars at the JSE's last close.
