Thai royal decoration conferred to Chinese FAO top official

The UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO)'s Chinese deputy director-general He Changchui Tuesday received here a Thai royal decoration as a recognition of his contribution to the food security in the Thailand as well as in the whole world.

He received the royal decoration of the "Knight Grand Cross ( First Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand" from Theera Wongsamut, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand at the headquarters of FAO in Rome.

He had worked in Thailand for over 16 years as UN official. He worked from 2002 to 2009 at Bangkok as the FAO Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific.

A statement released by Thai government said that under Dr. He' s leadership the FAO regional office provided strong support to royal projects and cooperative projects in Thailand in the areas of food security as well as rural development.

In his capacity as Deputy Director-General, Dr. He has proved himself for the trust and merit in this position. He has received high appreciation and recognition from member countries in all over the world, both developing and developed, said the statement.

He, who is the first Chinese Deputy Director-General of FAO since the UN agency was established in 1945, expressed his gratitude to the government and the king of Thailand for giving him such a great honor.

He told Xinhua that he is aware that this conferment of the royal decoration is not only in recognition of his years of work in Thailand, but also recognition of the contribution of FAO to the food security, agricultural development and rural development in Thailand and in the world.

"I consider this conferment also a great honor for my country, the People's Republic of China. Thailand and China have a long and time-tested tradition of mutual trust, mutual respect and cordial relationship", he added, saying that a decoration from king of Thailand to an ordinary Chinese citizen is a clear manifestation of the profound friendship between the two nations.

The Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand was established in 1869 for Thais and foreign persons for their outstanding services to the Kingdom of Thailand.
