The UN Security Council on Wednesday "condemned in the strongest terms the apparent terrorist attack" in Belarus' capital city Minsk which occurred on Monday, killing 12 people and injuring many others.

"The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed," said a Security Council press statement.

The Council reiterated its "determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations," said the statement.

The explosion, which occurred at the main "Oktyabrskaya" subway station on Monday as people were coming off trains during the evening rush hour, killed 12 and injured about 200 others.

Belarus declared on Wednesday a day of mourning for those killed in Monday's bombing.
