The first deputy foreign minister of Georgia on Monday said that the South Caucasus country is sending a delegation to the Swiss city of Bern for talks with a Russian delegation as regards the Russian affiliation with the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Georgian delegation is scheduled to depart for Bern on Wednesday or Thursday this week, First Deputy Foreign Minister Nikoloz Vashakidze said at a weekly briefing.

"We have received an official initiative from the Russian side over launch of talks," said the official. "As you are aware the Georgian side has always been expressing readiness for negotiations and the Georgian delegation will leave for Bern to participate in talks either on March 9 or March 10."

But the senior diplomat declined to elaborate on details of the upcoming talks, which will be conducted by the Georgian prime minister on the Georgian side.
