The UN Security Council on Friday is expected to vote on a draft resolution, tabled by Arab countries to condemn the Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and demand a halt to the settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Palestinian permanent observer to the UN, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, told reporters here that the 15-nation Council is going to vote on the draft, and voiced his hope that the United States, a permanent Council member with veto power, would not obstruct it.
The vote is taking place after the Palestinians refused a compromise offered by the United States in exchange for the withdrawal of the draft resolution.
