The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed in Vienna on Thursday that the Director General (DG) of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano, approved the resignation of the Deputy Director General, Head of the Department of Safeguards, Olli Heinonen.

It was confirmed by the IAEA press office that Olli Heinonen submitted his resignation because he would take another job.

As for Heinonen’s successor, nothing has yet been decided. But this post should be filled without delay through normal practice.

Olli Heinonen was appointed a deputy director-general of the IAEA in July 2005. The resignation of Olli Heinonen will take effect at the end of August.
