Sixty-third WHA closes after adopting multiple resolutions

The 63rd World Health Assembly (WHA) closed here on Friday after adopting a series of resolutions on a variety of global health issues.
The resolutions cover such topics as public health and intellectual property, counterfeit medical products, viral hepatitis, health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), food safety, prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, the global eradication of measles, the control of alcohol abuse, and pandemic preparedness.
"You reached agreement on some very important items that is a real gift to public health, everywhere," World Health Organization (WHO) Director-general Margaret Chan told the closing meeting.
The five-day conference was participated in by health ministers and officials from the WHO's 193 member states.
