Singapore is hosting delegates from 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member States, China, Japan and South Korea to discuss collaboration and governance in social welfare and development, the Singapore government said on Monday.

More than 50 senior officials will attend the sixth Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (6th SOMSWD) and the fifth Meeting of the ASEAN Plus Three SOMSWD (5th SOMSWD Plus Three) from January 11 to 14.

Themed "Strengthening Social Welfare and Development Collaborations and Governance," the 6th SOMSWD will deliberate and share experiences on best practices in social service delivery.

The 5th SOMSWD Plus Three facilitates closer collaboration between ASEAN Member States, China, Japan and South Korea in strengthening social welfare and development in ASEAN.

First held in 2002, senior officials in charge of social welfare and development from the 10 ASEAN Member States meet annually to discuss social welfare and development issues in areas including children, family, women, disability and elderly, as well as coordinate and implement relevant programs for ASEAN Member States.
