OPEC is to hold its 151st extraordinary ministerial meeting in the Algerian city of Oran on Wednesday.

The following is a brief introduction of Oran.

About 450 km west of the capital Algiers, Oran is the second largest city in the North African country and the commercial, industrial and educational center in the country's west.

Oran, which is the capital city of Oran Province in northwestern Algeria, lies on the Mediterranean coast with an area of 2,114 square km and a population of 1.5 million.

As a bustling commercial center and port, Oran has long been one of the best tourist destinations in Algeria, offering a wide choice of beaches and a magnificent coral reef close to Cap Blanc and Madagh, as well as historical attractions such as the Santa Cruz fort and Great Mosque which recently became open to the public.
