UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit Thailand on Dec. 9-11 at a personal invitation from Thailand's Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont.
The visit will be Ban's first visit to the country ever since he was appointed the UN secretary-general in January 2007.
Thailand's Prime Minister Surayud said on Wednesday that he had invited Ban Ki-moon to visit Thailand while attending the UN General Assembly in New York in September this year.
"Mr Ban is scheduled to attend a conference on global warming in Bali, Indonesia, during the period, so I thought it would be beneficial for both parties - since UN also has an office in Thailand - if he came to Thailand first," said Surayud.
Surayud said that he will not discuss Myanmar issue with Ban, insisting that "the matter had already been discussed in detail at the UN General Assembly and a special UN envoy has already been sent to Burma. Source:Xinhua
