Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said Tuesday in Algiers that Algeria and Italy are in favor of a "rapid political solution leading to peace, stability and democracy in Libya."

After he met with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in Algiers, Frattini was quoted by Algerian official APS news agency as saying that "we share the same interest while reaching such stability, given that Algeria and Italy are Libya's neighbors."

Algeria Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci and his Italian counterpart Franco Frattini mentioned in a joint press conference Tuesday that they support a political solution to the Libyan crisis, which was included in AU peace roadmap.

Frattini arrived on Tuesday in Algiers, responding to an invitation of his Algerian counterpart Mourad Medelci. The visit falls within the framework of political consultations stipulated in the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborhood and Cooperation between the two Mediterranean nations.
