Stampede kills 7, injuries 36 in music festival in Republic of Congo

Seven people were killed and 36 others injured Saturday in a stampede at the Pan-African Music Festival in the Republic of Congo, officials said on Sunday.
The tragedy happened at the capital's Felix Eboue Stadium, Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Jean-Claude Gakasso said, adding that the government decided to suspend the festival.
According to an official website, 36 people were injured in the stampede, with one soldier and three civilians severely hurt.
The cause of the incident remained unclear. The website said it happened when artists from Brazil were entering the venue.
The biennial Pan-African festival was to last till next Saturday, with musicians and artists from Brazil, Italy, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo attending the opening ceremony.
