China on Saturday handed over an agrarian center to Mozambique as part of steps to boost bilateral cooperation.

Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Huangu Songfu delivered to the Mozambican government the Agrarian Technology Transfer Center, Mozambique-China, which is located in Umbeluzi in the district of Boane in the capital Maputo.

Mozambican Minister of Science and Technology Venancio Massingue received the center and signed a document to formalize the act.

The 6 million U.S dollars project is funded by the Chinese government in cooperation with the Mozambican Ministry of Science and Technology.

The minister said the center is an added value to the agricultural sector given that it will contribute to scientific investigations, training and transfer of technology to increase productivity.

"For us it is great victory to have the center concluded, now we should focus on making the center operate on what it was established for," the official said.

The Chinese ambassador said it is one of its main objectives to help Mozambique achieve positive results in agriculture through the transfer of high technology because this is one of the main sectors of partnership between the two countries.

The center is one of the 14 projects China is committed to support in the African continent.

"Lately agriculture without technology can hardly perform better. With technology that China possess the sector can improve its results," the ambassador said.
