The Swedish parliament on Friday passed a bill extending by three months the nation's participation in the NATO-led military operation on Libya.

The bill passed after a heated debate on a 230-18 vote in the 349-seat parliament with 20 abstentions and 81 lawmakers absent.

Sweden's current mission, which will expire on June 22, is to send fighter jets to enforce the no-fly zone in Libya.

With the adoption of the bill, the number of the aircraft will decrease from eight to five.
