At least five people were killed and 11 others were injured in an armed attack launched by the forces of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) on a civilian vehicle in South Kordofan State, official SUNA news agency reported Sunday.

The SPLA forces on Sunday attacked, with Garanov machine guns, a civilian vehicle carrying 50 civilians who fled the area as the vehicle was crossing Zainab Bridge near Al-Dalang town in South Kordofan State, according to SUNA.

The incident resulted in killings of five the passengers, including a child, and injury of 11 others who had been transported to Al-Dalang hospital, the report said.

The report added that Al-Dalang Commissioner Abdu Jamma inspected the injured people at the site of the incident.

The South Kordofan State has witnessed violent clashes between the Sudan Armed Forces and SPLA's Nuba Mountains Sector, which resulted in victims among civilians.

The South Kordofan State, which lies on the border between the north and south Sudan, has recently witnessed elections for the state's governor with candidates from the Sudan government partners, the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), and the NCP candidate Ahmed Haroun won the post.

The Sudanese government earlier warned that it would not allow presence of any illegal forces in South Kordofan in a signal to forces of Commander Abdul-Aziz Al-Hilo of the SPLA-Nuba Mountains Sector.
