The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has protested to the Angolan government over the sexual mutilation of a Congolese national by the Angolan security forces near the border.

In a protest letter by DR Congo's foreign minister to the Angolan Embassy in Kinshasa on Thursday, the government condemned the act which does not augur well for the "close ties, friendship and good neighborliness that exists between Angola and DR Congo."

DR Congo's foreign minister asked the Angolan ambassador to inform his government about the need to stop harassment of Congolese nationals at the border between the two countries.

Many Congolese nationals who are chased away from Angola have complained of continued cases of both administrative and police harassment.

The victims have also complained about torture, rape and theft of their property during the forced repatriation operations.
