Burkina Faso's newly appointed chief of general staff, general Honore Nabere Traore, on Thursday met with representatives of all military units in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso's second city.

For over 5 hours, general Nabere Traore discussed with more than 1,500 soldiers from different barracks on issues of discipline, challenges facing the military and their work and living conditions.

The new army chief was appointed on April 15, after riots rocked the country's military.

Traore urged soldiers to help him succeed in his duty to ensure calm within the military barracks.

He told the leaders of various military barracks that it was their responsibility to ensure that soldiers are disciplined, especially after the riots witnessed in February and March.

He said the meeting was meant to address issues of discipline among soldiers since their image before the public had been tarnished in riots.

Traore stressed it will now be clear to everyone that in the military, discipline comes first.
