Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki on Saturday held talks with Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni who paid him a courtesy call in Nairobi focusing on regional infrastructure

A statement issued after the meeting said the two leaders discussed ways of developing and improving cross-border infrastructure including the proposed construction of a new standard gauge railway line and the Kenya-Uganda petroleum pipeline.

"In this regard, President Kibaki expressed Kenya's commitment to continue improving sections of the Northern Corridor to ease the movement of goods and services between the two countries and the region in general," the statement said.

The two leaders further discussed the East African integration and agreed that the process should move with speed so that the citizens of member states can fully enjoy the fruits of the regional economic bloc.

The two leaders also underscored the need for peace and stability as the cornerstone of development of the East African Community.

President Museveni is in the country to attend the Social Economic Transformation and the East African Political Federation Forum.
