At least 11 people were killed and 7 others injured in cows robbery incident over the course of this week at Gogrial district in south Sudan, reported UNMIS Radio Miraya FM.

The radio quoted a statement by members of south Sudan legislative council, who are representatives of the district's constituencies, as saying that "the incident was committed by cow bandits from Unity State".

The statement urged Unity State government to work to restore 400 cows stolen during the incident at Gogrial district in Northern Bahral-Ghazal State, according to the report.

Information Minister of Unity State Gideon Gatpan, meanwhile, confirmed the incident, affirming that his government has restored great numbers of cows to their owners.

The phenomenon of cow stealing spreads among the local citizens in south Sudan due to the hard economic conditions which the region has been suffering since the end of the civil war in 2005.
