Algeria, on behalf of several African countries, has urged European countries and the U.S. to resolve the Libyan crisis, in order to avoid the infiltration of elements of Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) into Libya, an Algerian official source said on Monday.

The local Algerian ElKhabar newspaper has quoted a well informed source as saying that AQIM has started training a dozen volunteer terrorists of different nationalities to send them to Libya.

The source specified that Libyan terrorists affiliated to AQIM have recently paid allegiance to a new leader, likely of Libyan origins, who belongs to terrorists activating in the African Sahel region, and who was endorsed by the leader of AQIM, Algerian Abdelmalek Droudkel.

The terror group is preparing to launch a new war in Libya by training recruits from Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Niger and Mali, in mobile training bases, the source said.

The same source said foreign military aircrafts have recently carried out air strikes on desert lanes in the Libyan Sahara, 50 km from the border with Algeria. The air strikes were aimed at tracking down terrorists attempting to reach Libya via Niger, the source added.

Several Algerian high-level officials have already warned that the security situation on the border with Libya is worrying, because of the withdrawal of the Libyan army and border guards, adding that "AQIM could lay hands on heavy weapons and harm the stability in the region."
