Algeria on Saturday said the situation in Egypt after the stepping down of President Hosni Mubarak is "crucial," stressing that it is clinging to the strong historical relationships with Egypt.

"During this crucial moment that Egypt is going through, Algeria strongly ascertains clinging to the historical and fraternal relationships between the Algerian and Egyptian peoples, " the Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement.

Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleiman said Friday that President Mubarak decided to resign, following 18 days of mass protests against his 30-year rule.
