Newly appointed Egyptian Minister of Culture Gaber El-Sayed Asfour resigned due to health problems after a reshuffle of the government demanded by protesters more than a week ago, the country's state TV reported Wednesday.

Asfour, who was appointed just nine days ago, submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Ahamad Shafiq for health reasons.

The cabinet reshuffle, a step to alleviate the outrage of the Egyptians amid the nationwide anti-regime demonstrations, included 14 new ministers while excluded some detested former ministers such as former Interior Minister Habib el-Adly, who was blamed for the chaos resulted from clashes between pro- and anti-Mubarak protesters.
