President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday night met with him and accepted his resignation as National Security Adviser (NSA).
Gusau is expected to hand over on Monday to the Deputy National Security Adviser Col. Kayode Are pending the appointment of a substantive NSA.
The former NSA will on Monday obtain his presidential nomination form at the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP).
Gusau is a retired Nigerian army officer who was appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan on March 8, 2010, to stabilize the administration in the wake of the ill-health of former President Umaru Yar'Adua, who later died.
The former NSA held the same position during most of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidency.
