United Nation special envoy Haile Menkerios met Madagascan President Marc Ravalomanana here on Thursday in his latest effort to mediate between the president andhis rival Andry Rajoelina.

No result was announced about the meeting, which took place one day after Madagascan influential Christian Council of Churches gave up its effort to mediate between the two political rivals.

However, in a statement issued here after the meeting between Ravalomanana and Rajoelina, the Churches council said church leaders would continue their mediation to seek a peaceful solution to the current political crisis that kicked off last December.

The statement mentioned no word of any result of the 45-minute meeting between the UN special representative and Ravalomanana.

On a question by media reporters about the meeting, Rasamoelina John, one of the Christian church council leaders, only said that it remained a secret.

The church leaders appealed the opposition leader Rajoelina, who called his supporter to continue their anti-government demonstration on Saturday, to resume talks with Ravalomanana.
