Zambian Finance Minister Ng'andu Magande has applied to be considered as presidential candidate of the ruling Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) for the forthcoming presidential by-election, The Post reported Tuesday.
In a letter dated Aug. 25, 2008 and addressed to MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba, Magande said that he considered himself eminently qualified to represent the MMD in the by-election.
"I refer to the announcement made to the NEC (National Executive Committee) members that you are now receiving applications from the bona fide members of the MMD party who wish to be considered for adoption as a Presidential candidate," Magande stated.
"I hereby apply to be considered by the MMD party as a candidate for the Presidential by-elections due in November, 2008.With my rich experience in managing state operations both internationally and locally, I consider myself eminently qualified to represent the MMD party in the forthcoming presidential by-elections," he said.
