An Israeli Air Force (IAF) attack late Tuesday night scored a direct hit on a smuggling tunnel in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman 's Office told Xinhua Wednesday.

There were no reports of casualties in the airstrike on the tunnel, which the army said was intended for infiltrating into Israel and executing violent attacks against the Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers.

The sortie was the second such attack against Palestinian militant targets on Tuesday, and came in response to a Kassam rocket salvo into Israel several days ago, the army said.

Two militants were killed and a third wounded from a previous bombing run on Tuesday, which the IDF said was dispatched to interdict rocket fire into Israel.

Palestinian sources said on Wednesday that the militants belonged to a Salafist group.

In a separate incident earlier Tuesday, militants fired at an IDF vehicle patrolling the security fence that marks the border with southern Gaza, lightly injuring the driver.
