President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso will visit Egypt next week to discuss bilateral ties and cooperation, an EU official said Wednesday.

During the visit, Barroso will meet with representatives of Egypt's ruling military council, Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and members of different political parties, said Mark Franco, head of the EU Delegation to Cairo.

The EU will cooperate with Egypt for its economic development. It will help improve Egypt's exportation opportunities and open new gates for Egyptian agricultural products, Franco was quoted by Egyptian news agency MENA as saying.

Concerning financial support to Egypt, Franco said that "aids allocated by the EU to North African countries are to strengthen the Egyptian economy and create job opportunities."
