Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday the Russian government would "unlimitedly" support Yemen in preserving stability, security and unity, official Saba news agency reported.

"This unlimitedly support would be on the basis of the long- term profound friendly relations between Russia and Yemen," Lavrov told Yemeni Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi via phone.

"Russia is working through the Group of Yemen's Friends to help Yemen maintain calm and stability and to provide through the United Nations all forms of support to the Yemeni government," Lavrov said.

The Yemeni vice president, for his part, highly appreciated Russia's stance towards Yemen.

Yemen has been in the grip of five-month-old protests, demanding the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, which triggered unrest across the country.
