Kuwait on Wednesday appointed Abdulwahab Al-Haroun as the new minister for development and planning, replacing Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, who resigned earlier this month.

Al-Haroun, a former lawmaker, would be in charge of the country 's four-year development plan that was hindered amid the strained relations between the government and parliament.

Sheikh Ahmad, a member of the ruling Sabah family, resigned on June 9 due to an allegedly power struggle with Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah.

The official KUNA news agency said the government also appointed Mohammad Al-Noumas as the new minister of Awqaf and Islamic affairs and the minister of housing affairs.
