A roadside bomb ripped off in southern Iraqi capital of Baghdad when a police patrol passed by on Friday morning, leaving one civilian dead and three others wounded, a police source said.

The incident happened in Doura district in southern Baghdad and the wounded included two policemen, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the media.

In a separate incident late on Thursday, unidentified gunmen attacked an Iraqi army checkpoint in Sadr city of eastern Baghdad, killing one and wounding three. All the casualties are Iraqi soldiers, the source said.

Violence has dropped significantly since its peak in 2006 and 2007, but bombings and shootings are still a daily occurrence. Recent weeks saw a marked upturn of attacks against security forces and government officials.
