The Israeli forces opened fire at the Palestinians demonstrating in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, wounding a youth, witnesses and spokesman of the ambulance service said.

The youth was wounded in his neck and taken to Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza Strip, where doctors said he was moderately wounded, said Adham Abu Selmia of the ambulance service.

The incident happened when dozens of people were demonstrating near borders in northern Gaza Strip against a 300-meter-wide buffer zone Israel allocated along the boundaries with the strip.

Relative calmness has prevailed in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip since the beginning of March, following a round of cross-border fighting in which 20 Palestinians, mostly militants, were killed.
