Syrian Foreign Ministry slammed here on Monday the "fierce aggression conducted by Israel on unarmed Palestinian and Syrian protesters."

The ministry said in a statement that the victims were demanding their natural and legal right to return to their own homeland in the Arab territories occupied by Israel.

The statement also called on the international community to punish Israel on its "crimes against civilians."

The Israeli army on Sunday responded by heavy fire to unarmed Palestinian and Syrian protesters at the cease-fire line between Syria and Israel, killing 24 people and wounding 320 others, according to a press release by the Syrian Health Ministry.

Hundreds of Palestinian refugees and Syrians tried Sunday to cross the barbed wire fences into the Israeli-controlled Majdal Shams, to mark the "Naksa Day," the anniversary of the six-day war of 1967.
