A huge fire blazed late Thursday in the headquarters of the Yemeni Airline, which is in front of the house of Yemeni opposition tribal leader Sadiq al-Ahmar, who leads week-long pitched street battles in downtown Sanaa.

"A huge explosion set the building of Yemeni National Airway Yemenia on huge fire," a Xinhua reporter and a resident said.

The resident Sam Atif said the blazed Yemenia building located exactly in front of the house of al-Ahmar in Hassaba district in Sanaa.

"Hassaba area has witnessed the most intensified shelling tonight since the street battles erupted last week, in which tanks and armored vehicles showed up in the afternoon and machine gun fire could be heard," an eyewitness named Ali Motahar told Xinhua.

A security official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that "after regaining control of all government buildings and besieging al-Ahmar's fighters, the Yemeni special forces are now preparing to storm the house and hideouts of Sadiq al-Ahmar himself and his brothers."

"There were hundreds of dead bodies, mostly from al-Ahmar's gunmen on the streets as the whole area of Hassaba is blocked by security and military forces," the official said.

Long-time blackouts hit the capital, especially Hassaba area, since three days ago, said some of residents who still held their houses to protect their property after their families fled.
