Two-hour heavy gunshots mixed with a series of loud explosions rocked the cease-fire area in downtown the Yemeni capital Sanaa late on Sunday, residents said Monday.

The shoot-out took place near Hassaba district, just hours after armed tribesmen of opposition tribal leader Sadiq al-Ahmar handed over the Ministry of Local Administrative to a mediation committee based on a cease-fire deal to end the five-day street battles.

Al-Ahmar later on Sunday has stipulated the withdrawal of government forces from around his home in order to hand over the rest of the government building seized by his armed tribesmen.

Some of the residents said the explosions took place near the house of al-Ahmar, who sided with the four-month-long protests demanding an immediate end to the 33-year rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
